Summary of Selected Provisions
- Instructs the president to create a National Artificial Intelligence Initiative overseen by an initiative office and advisory committee
- Directs federal science agencies to support the creation of National Artificial Intelligence Research Institutes, with a focus on developing AI data sets and testbeds; researching the social, economic, health, scientific, and national security implications of AI; and broadening participation in AI research and training though outreach
- Provides policy direction and recommended funding levels for AI research programs at the National Institute of Standards and Technology, National Science Foundation, and Department of Energy
- Directs the National Science Foundation to commission a study on the impact of AI on the U.S. workforce and requires the Government Accountability Office to evaluate AI computing hardware needs in the public and private sector
